Trumpet Coral, Caulastrea furcata, is a uniquely-colored, easy-care coral that is great for reef keepers beginning to maintain Stony Corals. Also know as Bullseye or Candy Cane Coral, each cluster is a bright green surrounded by a “cushion” of red. Actinic spectrum lighting will accentuate these colors, particularly the metallic variety. Requiring moderate lighting and a moderate water flow, it is a fairly benign coral whose sweeper tentacles typically do not reach other corals. Trumpet Coral will thrive at most any level of the aquarium. It is recommended to start with a mid-level position – depending on individual lighting scenarios – then to adjust positioning based on the growth observed. As with most other members of Large Polyp Stonys, maintaining a proper calcium level is an important key to successful development. It will definitely benefit from occasional target feedings of plankton or brine shrimp.
