Banggai Cardinalfish is known by a number of names including the Banner Cardinal, High-finned Cardinal, and Kaudern Cardinal. This fish, commonly named for its origin off the Banggai Islands of Indonesia, is found there hovering in groups of 50 or more. Pterapogon kauderni is hardy and grows to a maximum length of around 3 inches. Its size makes it perfect for large and for small aquariums. Its hardiness makes it a great fish for aquarists of all experience levels. Groups of Banggai Cardinalfish in close quarters will tend to become territorial and can show aggression amongst themselves. Given plenty of room, they will school for a dramatic effect with their silver bodies, white spots, and black stripes all hovering in unison. The Bangghai is a great aquarium addition as it displays no aggression toward other fish, corals, or invertebrates. Care should be taken to ensure that other species do not pick on the Banggai. Unlike most other smaller fish (many Gobies, for example), it will normally be visible out in the open space of the home aquarium. It will accept a variety of foods including Brine Shrimp and bloodworms, and will typically accept flake food fairly easily.
